2022 World Asthma Day Focus: Gaps in asthma care in the community

This World Asthma Day (May 3, 2022) we’re coming together to better understand and address the gaps in asthma care in our community.

Many of you with asthma may have been prescribed corticosteroid tablets at some point, but do you know how they help you and what the potential side effects are? Oral Corticosteroids such as prednisone, prednisolone and dexamethasone come in the form of tablets or sometimes liquids and can be a powerful and lifesaving treatment for people with asthma. But they can also cause severe side effects, especially when taken too often.

There is evidence to suggest that some people with asthma are prescribed oral corticosteroids excessively as part of their asthma management. It is important that the right people with asthma receive the right dose of oral corticosteroids (no more than is needed) when needed, with an informed understanding of how they can help and what the risks are.

To better understand your experience, we’re asking you to complete a short survey.  It will take approximately 5 minutes of your time. The survey has been approved by the Monash University Ethics Committee (ID32641) and will remain open until 8pm AEST May 16, 2022.

Once you’ve completed the survey, you will receive a link to read more information about oral corticosteroids.
