Our strategic plan 2018-2021

Asthma Australia’s mission is clear.

We want to help people to breathe so they can live freely.

We want to halve the number of avoidable hospital presentations from asthma.

We want to cure asthma.

Australia has made significant progress in the prevention and treatment of asthma. But we cannot rest while asthma continues to cause hurt and heartache. We want to reinvigorate our efforts to prevent, to research and to stop asthma.

In order to help you, we have set in train a strategic plan that will strengthen our organisation and services, now and into the future.

Strategic Pillars

At Asthma Australia we are focused on five key areas

  1. High performance and Innovative Culture
We are driving a culture of growth and fresh thinking to empower our people to perform at their best so we can achieve the best possible outcomes for people with asthma. We need to improve your ability to lead fulfilling lives uninhibited by asthma and the overall health statistics for Australians.
  2. Connected and Empowered Consumers
We are providing the right information in the right format and at the right time for our consumers. People with asthma are empowered with the knowledge and tools you need to manage your asthma. We are increasing our digital presence to engage individuals when and where they need it, from big cities to the outback.
  3. Impact and Influence
We are reaching out to people with asthma through our existing services and finding better ways to connect. We are approaching health and hospital networks to embed best-practice asthma services. We are building an evidence-based and cost-effective strategy to build capacity in health professionals and community services. Overall, we are changing the health system so it is easier and more effective. This is all aimed at our goal to halve avoidable hospital presentations due to asthma by 2030.
  4. Trusted and Expert Voice
As the leading voice on asthma in Australia, we are strengthening our relationships with key government, health and community organisations. We are committed to meeting the needs of all people with asthma and the people who care for them.
  5. Financial Sustainability
We are ensuring our internal operations are strong, so we can continue to deliver services and assistance for people with asthma into the future.

Our Goal

To halve avoidable hospital presentations for asthma by 2030.
