In partnership with the Lung Foundation, Asthma Australia is funded by the Adelaide Primary Health Network to undertake the Adelaide Respiratory Health Project (ARHP).
The AHRP project aims to increase the capacity and collaboration of general practices and pharmacies in the South Australian local government areas of Onkaparinga and Playford to deliver best practice respiratory care to people with asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. The ARHP commenced in November and will continue for 18 months. The Project will deliver support to the general practices and pharmacies through:
- training in clinical guidelines and other needed areas (e.g. spirometry)
- needs assessments
- use of action plans
- GP management plans
- Quality Use of Medicines activities
- self-management framework use and support.
There will also be a focus on facilitating collaboration and referrals between general practices, pharmacies, and other relevant organisations. A key outcome of the program will be resources, including procedure and process documents, to enable the replication of the project to other services.
