Asthma Action Plans for kids

An Asthma Action Plan tells you how to look after your child’s asthma. It is something that all people with asthma need. No matter how old they are or how mild their asthma might seem.

It’s your guide on what to do if they do have a flare-up or asthma attack. Give a copy to your child’s teacher, sports coach, grandparents and babysitters. Anyone who cares for your child should be prepared in case they have a flare-up in their care.

Our Asthma Action Plan can be used for both kids and adults! It’s the plan you will give to your child’s school or childcare. There used to be a different plan specifically for schools, but fortunately this is no longer needed.

How often does it need to be updated?

An Asthma Action Plan needs to be updated every time your child’s asthma medicines or symptoms change.

Even if there are no changes, their doctor should check it every 6 months.

This is a standard part of your child’s asthma review.
