Asthma Australia has announced Kate Miranda as its new CEO. Her appointment follows an extensive search following the resignation of inaugural CEO Michele Goldman in May this year.

With more than 25 years in the not-for-profit sector and federal government in health, foreign affairs, education and media, Miranda is an experienced and innovative leader. She also has a strong track record in driving revenue growth and operational performance.

Miranda has spent the last four years at Australian Red Cross, most recently serving as the Director of NSW. She is a Non-Executive Director, and also holds Adjunct Fellow positions at Macquarie University and UTS Business School.

Board Chair James Wright said the Asthma Australia Board of Directors is delighted to have secured Miranda as its CEO.

“Kate is an innovative leader with strong advocacy and public affairs skills and experience. She has an impressive track record of achievement in the not-for-profit sector and has demonstrated a deep commitment to improving the health and quality-of-life of vulnerable people in our community over many years.

“Kate will continue to serve the community at Asthma Australia by helping to drive better health outcomes for the nearly 2.8 million Australians with the condition. She will further our commitment to halving avoidable asthma hospitalisations by 2030 through our focus on person-centred asthma care and driving forward our refined 2024 – 2027 Strategic Plan,” he said.

Miranda said, “I am delighted to be joining Asthma Australia and look forward to building on the great work of the team, the Board and Councils to improve asthma management and education, reduce the burden of disease and continue to be an effective voice for people with asthma.”

The Asthma Australia Board of Directors extends their gratitude to Interim CEO Doris Whitmore and the Leadership Team for progressing Asthma Australia’s dedication to improving outcomes for people with asthma.

Miranda is Sydney-based and joins the organisation on 28 October 2024.
