A Gift in your Will to Asthma Australia means that a person with asthma has a chance at reaching their full potential. Thanks to you they will breathe better and live freely of the restraints of asthma.

Your legacy is a lot to consider, and we want you to make the right decision for you and your family. We understand your loved ones come first. Once you’ve looked after them, we would be honoured if you consider leaving a gift to support people with asthma.  

We will use your gift to do the work that’s most important to people with asthma.  You can change your mind at any time. We’ll always support your decision.  

 

How to leave a Gift in your Will

If you’d like to remember Asthma Australia in your Will, you should discuss your wishes with your family first. Others you should consider are a solicitor and our Philanthropy team. By informing us of your plans, you’ll become part of a special group of supporters. Any information you provide us with is in no way legally binding and will be kept confidential, if that’s your wish.  

 

Suggested wording for your Will

If you would like to leave a gift to Asthma Australia, a solicitor can advise you on the best way to do this. You may wish to update your existing Will with a codicil (addendum) or use the following sample wording to insert a clause in your Will: 

“I (insert name here) give Asthma Australia (ABN 91 609 156 630)…. [Insert one of the following]; 

  • The whole of my estate 
  • (insert number) % of my estate 
  • The residue of my estate (amounting to whatever remains after loved ones have been taken care of)  
  • The sum of $ (insert amount) 
  • My (Details of a particular asset, such as shares or property) for its general purposes free of all duties and taxes payable upon death or in consequence of my death.

The receipt of the authorised officer, for the time being, shall be a complete and sufficient discharge for the Executor/s.”

You help to provide Information and support for people with asthma and their carers 

Your generosity allows us to work in and with local communities to listen, learn and co-design solutions to the problems that are keeping their asthma stuck in place. We provide information, support programs, and resources that make a difference to people with asthma through various channels 

 Your support means that First Nations people receive the very best support  

Thanks to you, our readiness to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities is continuing to improve. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are 1.6 times more likely to have asthma than other Australians. Your support has allowed us to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan, to train our entire staff in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Competence, and to commence development of a specific First Nations strategy so that any person living with asthma gets the support they need, in the way they need it. 

You are making it so that healthcare professionals are educated and ready to help people with asthma get the best possible care  

Asthma is complex, so we make a priority to offer educate to healthcare professionals on current asthma practice so that when people with asthma and their carers have patients with asthma they are giving the best and most relevant information, medicine and support.
