Your own doctor or chemist may be able to offer specialised Asthma Education. If not, you can ask your doctor to check their HealthPathways software to refer you to another local service.

Telehealth Service 

Calvary Hospital: Emergency Department Asthma Discharge Project 

If you went to Calvary ED because of your asthma: 

  • Calvary Hospital will get in touch with you to offer you a referral to Asthma Australia. 
  • This means you can get a free asthma education phone call from us. 

Our calls are made: 

  • Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm 
  • For all ages 

We work with you: 

  • On how to take care of your asthma while waiting to see your doctor.  
  • On how to stop future asthma attacks. 
  • On how to get the best from your next visit to the doctor.

TASMANIA

Adult and children’s respiratory and asthma services are available at: 

  • Royal Hobart Hospital 
  • Launceston General Hospital 
  • North West Regional Hospital 
  • Mersey Community Hospital 

Asthma Clinics for Children 

There are Paediatric Asthma Clinics with asthma nurses at the hospitals in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, available by GP referral. At the Burnie Hospital there is a specialist children’s respiratory and allergy service. 

  • At each appointment they will be available for education. 
  • They may assist with tests on your child’s lungs. 
  • The asthma nurse also helps arrange appointments and is the best contact person for questions and concerns.

Respiratory Outpatient Clinics for Adults 

Respiratory Outpatient Clinics for assessment and management are available at all hospitals. 

Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Asthma Clinics for Adults 

This clinic is for specialist assessment of patients with life threatening asthma attacks, moderate or severe persistent asthma, difficulty with self-management, lack of response to treatment, guidance needed around triggers and avoidance. 

VICTORIA

Referral from your GP is needed to attend Respiratory Clinics at Public Hospitals such as: 

  • Austin Health Breathing and Sleep Disorders Clinic 
  • Eastern Health Respiratory Clinic 
  • Monash Health – Monash Medical Centre Clayton, Respiratory and Sleep Clinic 
  • Northern Health Respiratory Clinic
