At Asthma Australia, we’re committed to backing great research and the people behind it. Many projects we’ve seed funded have gone on to secure major investment and improve asthma care.  

That’s why we established the Peter Van Asperen Career Development Grant, to continue the legacy of an extraordinary paediatric respiratory physician, researcher and mentor who left us too soon.

Congratulations to our latest 2026 recipient Dr Sanjay Ramakrishnan – respiratory physician, researcher and rising star. This year’s grant supports Dr Ramakrishnan’s next project – exploring earlier use of biologic therapies for people with mild asthma.

Presenting the award at TSANZ, Asthma Australia CEO, Kate Miranda said:  

“What Dr Ramakrishnan has already achieved is impressive and I’m pleased we can support what comes next.”
