Asthma Australia is proud to be delivering the AIRR Project, an initiative focused on promoting evidence-based, person-centered respiratory primary health care. Funded by the Adelaide PHN, it will enable increased collaboration between general practices and pharmacies, and improve pathways between primary health care and LHNs. It will build on the findings from the Adelaide Respiratory Health Project (AHRP), completed in August 2019.

Patients with poor asthma control and/or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) control will be encouraged to engage in the project with their health care coordinators. They will be offered support through a training program and provision of information that will improve their confidence and skills in managing their own respiratory health. A range of new accredited training and resources will be offered to general practices and pharmacies to support the project.

Asthma Australia is inviting expressions of interest from general practices and pharmacies that wish to be part of this innovative project, who together can improve patient outcomes for asthma and COPD.

Our objectives are to:

  • utilise existing learnings and resources (from ARHP) to continue to build the capacity of general practice and pharmacies to deliver evidence-based, person-centered respiratory primary health care.
  • develop and implement pathways to reduce potentially preventable hospitalisations and readmissions of people with respiratory conditions.
  • support people with respiratory conditions to better participate in their own healthcare and the healthcare system.
  • facilitate and increase collaboration and integration between general practices, pharmacies, and other relevant organisations, including Local Health Network (LHN) Emergency and Outpatient Departments.
