As we approach the end of 2022, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank each and every one of you. So many of you have generously shared your time and lived experience to help us shift the status quo for people with asthma.

The beginning of this year was once again dominated by COVID-19 and the restrictions it imposed on our lives. Throughout it all we have continued to provide support to our community through our many touchpoints, including our phone service 1800 ASTHMA.

We are proud to have launched our 2022-2024 Strategic Plan, which sets out our path forward as we work towards our goal to halve avoidable hospitalisations from asthma. We also piloted our AirSmart air quality app and campaign, which helps people who are sensitive to low air quality access the information they need to protect their health. Additionally, we created the National Asthma Research Agenda (NARA) to enable the community to have your say in what’s next for Australian asthma research. We used insights from 593 survey respondents to create a top 10 priority list. This list will help us develop our own National Asthma Research Program, allowing us to commission and advocate for increased research in the areas that you said matter most.

Next year we will continue to connect and engage with our most at-risk populations, including kids and their carers and mature women living with asthma. We will focus on addressing the social and environmental determinants of health, which contribute greatly to the burden of asthma in people’s lives. Most importantly we will continue to work hard to deliver on our promise to help people breathe better so you can live more freely.

Thank you all for your continued support. We wish you a happy and healthy festive season.
