Asthma Australia and Connected Beginnings Lutruwita/Tasmania have launched the Breathe Strong & Dream Big in Lutruwita, a campaign that reinforces the message that as a community we can all help our children breathe strong, thrive, and dream big on Country.

Connected Beginnings Lutruwita/Tasmania aims to provide Aboriginal children with every opportunity to thrive in their early years, ensuring they are healthy and have a lifelong learning journey. Connected Beginnings Lutruwita/Tasmania program is delivered under an innovative Collective Impact framework that aims to elevate the Aboriginal community’s voice, support integrated service provision, advocate for culturally safe and appropriate services and facilitate positive actions to improve community outcomes.  Connected Beginnings Lutruwita is a program of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre.

Asthma Australia is a valued collective partner of Connected Beginnings Lutruwita and has collaborated on the development and launch of this community-led, place-based campaign focused on improving asthma care. The campaign supports children to be school ready with up-to-date Asthma Action Plans and aims to support families to feel confident in providing asthma first aid.

Using strengths-based messaging, Breathe Strong & Dream Big in Lutruwita promotes effective asthma management and highlights that, with appropriate holistic care and strong community support, each child can manage their asthma health well, thrive and dream big. The campaign reinforces that asthma is a shared responsibility, and we all have a role to play in managing asthma care within our community.

The campaign includes the following elements:

  • A campaign video and short reels that explain optimal asthma management and care
  • Posters designed to engage the community with asthma first aid information, promote asthma action plans to support school readiness, and reinforce key campaign messages
  • Promotion of the campaign through established Connected Beginnings community events, creating opportunities for community engagement
  • Education sessions for Aboriginal Health Promotion Workers
  • Community information sessions

The campaign artwork was created by Ruby Moore, a Palawa artist from Lutruwita/Tasmania, to elevate and visually strengthen the campaign’s message.
