Asthma is the most common chronic respiratory condition among children in Australia, affecting nearly 400,000 young people. It is also the most expensive respiratory disease for primary healthcare, placing a significant financial burden on families due to the cost of doctor visits, medications, and time off work.
To address this, Asthma Australia has launched its 2025 Election Priorities – Healthy Futures for Kids with Asthma. This $18 million, three-year initiative focuses on 23 high-prevalence asthma clusters and includes the establishment of a National Children’s Asthma Hub, a dedicated program to support First Nations children in the Northern Territory, and improved pathways to transition children from acute care to primary care.
