Colds, flu and viruses
Colds, flu and viral infections (such as rhinovirus) are the most common triggers for asthma flare-ups. They can be more serious for you than for people without asthma, even if your asthma is mild or well controlled. Â
You may take longer to recover from a viral infection or develop other complications such as pneumonia or bronchitis. Â
As you know, avoiding these viruses is hard. But you can reduce your risk of catching viral infections or the common cold or flu by following these tips:Â
- Wash your hands before you eat or touch your face, eyes or nose. Â
- Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow. Â
- Avoid crowded spaces where possible.Â
- Have the flu vaccination every year. Â
- Keep a physical distance from others who have colds.Â
