Pests

Pests such as ants, spiders, mice and cockroaches can cause allergic reactions and trigger asthma flare-ups. These reactions can be caused by the proteins found in the flakes of skin or dander, saliva or urine of pests.

HOW CAN I GET RID OF PESTS IN MY HOME?

While there is no way to be certain you won’t encounter pests in your home, there are things you can do to reduce their numbers.

Some steps you can take include:

  • Consider having a home pest treatment from a professional or use household pest control products (make sure you find out about the products used, especially if smells or aerosols are a trigger for you).
  • Remove clutter in your home where possible and dispose of any rubbish immediately. Vacuum your floors regularly, particularly carpets and rugs where pests and pest droppings could be hiding.
  • Wash soft toys and pillows regularly.
  • Use an air purifier if you have one.
