Andrew’s connection to asthma is deeply personal – and spans generations.

I lost my mother to asthma as a child and now have two boys who have lived with acute asthma – improving the lives of Australians with asthma and supporting their carers is deeply personal to me”.

When Andrew was just four years old, he lost his mother to an asthma attack. She was in her late twenties.

Asthma has remained part of Andrew’s family story. He lives with asthmaa himself. Two of his boys have also experienced asthma, and his teenage son continues to manage the condition daily.

Like so many parents, Andrew understands the constant vigilance that comes with caring for a child with asthma – monitoring symptoms, staying prepared, and hoping that good management will prevent the worst from happening.

But Andrew’s story is not only one of loss and challenge – it is one of strength, action and commitment.

Since 2013, Andrew has been a passionate supporter of Asthma Australia and its predecessor organisations. That year, he raised substantial funds to support people living with asthma – driven by the memory of his mother and his determination to create a different future for his children and others like them.

Andrew has also volunteered his time and expertise, becoming a powerful voice for people with asthma at Asthma Australia’s webinars and events. He understands firsthand the challenges families face – not only the health impacts, but the emotional and practical realities of living with a chronic condition.

Beyond fundraising and advocacy, Andrew contributes to meaningful change through his involvement in Asthma Australia’s Consumer Advisory Council and several Consumer Reference Groups (CRG). He works alongside others to improve asthma management and outcomes for all Australians living with asthma.

For Andrew, supporting Asthma Australia is about honouring his mother’s memory. It is about protecting his son’s future. And it is about working towards a world where better asthma management – and ultimately a cure – means no family has to experience the loss that his did.
