This World Asthma Day, Tuesday May 6, will see the launch of Asthma Australia’s campaign: Smarter Oral Steroid – towards the responsible use in asthma care.

The aim of this initiative is to empower people with asthma to make informed choices about oral corticosteroids and focus on better asthma management to avoid the need for rescue medicines like oral steroids.

Oral corticosteroids can be an important rescue medicine that saves lives for people with asthma, when prescribed and used for the right reason.

However, we need to be more cautious with their use, as we are now more aware than ever of the long-term consequences and side-effects of oral steroid use.
