Ciphaler
A ciphaler is a generic inhaler, similar to an accuhaler. It is a dry powder inhaler, with a counter to show how many doses are left.
You need to be able to breathe in quick and deep to use a ciphaler, so it’s not suitable for young children.
HOW TO USE A CIPHALER
- Open cover using thumb grip
- Load dose: keep device horizontal while sliding lever until it clicks (do not shake)
- Breathe out slowly and gently, away from inhaler until your lungs feel empty
- Put mouthpiece between teeth without biting and close lips to form a good seal; keep inhaler horizontal
- Breathe in quickly and deeply
- Hold breath for about 5 – 10 seconds or as long as comfortable
- While holding breath, remove inhaler from mouth
- Breathe out gently, away from inhaler
- If more than one dose is prescribed, repeat all steps starting from step 2
- Close cover to click shut
HOW TO LOOK AFTER A CIPHALER
- Avoid breathing into the ciphaler
- Keep it closed when not in use
- Never wash the device – always keep it clean and dry
- Wipe the mouthpiece with a clean, dry tissue or lint-free cloth
- Do not shake
HOW CAN I TELL WHEN THE CIPHALER IS EMPTY?
There are 60 doses of the medicine in a ciphaler. A dose counter on the side of the ciphaler will show you how many doses remain.
